About The Album
La Vallée describes the Curral das Freiras (Valley of the Nuns) in Madeira. The valley was a haven for escaped slaves at the time of Portuguese slavery. The valley lies at 633 meters and is completely surrounded by high mountains. The name Curral das Freiras, which means “nun valley”, originated when monks fled from Funchal (through a very hidden hiking trail) and thus hid in the remote valley from French pirates who invaded Madeira. The Nun Valley is an old longing goal of mine and I only know it from stories and descriptions. It has to be of breathtaking, wild beauty and I hope to visit it someday. But for so long I have the performance and my music.
- Part I – describes the old path into the valley that led down the high mountain peaks and dangerous narrow paths into the breathtaking gorges.
- Part II – the arrival in the valley, the exhaustion of the path and the first ringing of the monastery bells.
- Part III – the beauty of the valley. The peaceful atmosphere, the calm, the rippling of the streams and the knowledge of the attained security.
- Part IV – the sadness when leaving the valley, the melancholy and the knowledge of loss as the bells of the monastery in the background fade away.
La Vallée beschreibt das Curral das Freiras (Tal der Nonnen) auf Madeira. Das Tal war zur Zeit der portugiesischen Sklaverei ein Zufluchtsort entflohener Sklaven. Das Tal liegt auf 633 Metern Höhe und ist komplett umschlossen von hohen Bergen. Der Name Curral das Freiras, der “Nonnental” bedeutet, entstand als Mönche aus Funchal flüchteten (durch einen sehr versteckten Wanderpfad) und sich so in dem abgelegenen Tal vor französischen Seeräubern versteckten, die in Madeira eindrangen. Das Nonnental ist ein altes Sehnsuchtsziel von mir und ich kenne es nur aus Erzählungen und Beschreibungen. Es muss von atemberaubender, wilder Schönheit sein und ich hoffe es irgendwann besuchen zu können. So lange aber habe ich die Vorstellung und meine Musik.
- Teil I – beschreibt den alten Weg in das Tal, der über die hohen Bergspitzen und gefährliche enge Pfade in die atemberaubenden Schluchten hinab führte.
- Teil II – die Ankunft im Tal, die Erschöpfung des Weges und das erste Erklingen der Klosterglocken.
- Teil III – die Schönheit des Tales. Die friedliche Stimmung, die Ruhe, das Plätschern der Bäche und das Wissen um die erlangt Sicherheit.
- Part IV – die Trauer beim Verlassen des Tals, die Wehmut und das Wissen um Verlust während im Hintergrund die Glocken des Klosters in der Ferne verklingen.
